It’s Camping with the Kids Week
With summer in full swing, I’m trying to keep the kids busy + learning while they are out of school. So, each week I’m featuring a new theme to make summer both educational while making great memories for the kids too. This week our theme is Camping with Kids.
Did you know, Saturday June 28th is the annual Great American Backyard Campout? It’s a great event that encourages families to get outside, enjoy the great outdoors either camping in your yard, or at a campground. Either way, it’s a great night to spend with your family and friends outdoors under the stars to be part of a national movement to help support programs that give back to our precious wildlife. Camping is a great way to teach kids to foster the love and appreciation of the great outdoors and nature.
Each day this week I’ll feature a fun activity that explores camping with the kids.
First on my list….. Making Smores. Not only is it super easy… and when I say easy, I’m not joking… it’s so simple and all done indoors. Yes, indoors… camping is done outside, but if you don’t have a fire-pit waiting in your backyard, then here’s a great way to get the kids involved during your backyard camping…Smores, of course.
Because, you just can’t camp without making Smores, here’s an easy way to make them.
Easy Indoor Smores
Ingredients:
Graham Crackers
Chocolate Bar
Large Marshmallows
Tin Foil
Sheet Pan
Here’s What To Do:
Layer your sheet pan with tin foil and heat your oven to the broil setting.
Have the kids break the graham crackers in half and lay them onto sheet pan.
Break your chocolate bar into squares
Top 1/2 the graham crackers with marshmallow. Top the other 1/2 with a chocolate piece.

Top 1/2 the graham crackers with marshmallow. Top the other 1/2 with a chocolate piece.
Leave the graham crackers face open and place into the oven.
Warning: They cook QUICK! With the broiler setting, maybe less than 2 minutes.
Once you pull from the oven, put your Smores together like a sandwich and enjoy this yummy treat!
Now, making indoor smores may seem odd, but honestly they taste delicious with less mess, especially if you can’t get to a bbq or fire pit in your backyard. Plus, it’s so easy and the kids absolutely love it. As you can see my son had no problem enjoying his indoor Smores - he actually ate 2 of them, they are SO good.
If you want to join the movement and take the camping pledge, check out backyardcampout.org for even more ways to get outdoors and enjoy nature with your family.
I hope you get outside this week and maybe try camping in your backyard with the kids. We’ll be outside this weekend camping, will you?
Today’s indoor Smores was just our first stop in making a backyard campout a huge success. My kids loved camping in the backyard and can’t wait to do it again this weekend, so stay tuned this week, I will show you even more fun activities, games, and ways to make your backyard camping a BIG hit with the whole family.

Love it! I craved s’mores all the time last summer (I was pregnant, what can I say?
) and made them in the oven, too! We might just have to make these this weekend! I love it when the marshmallows are burnt. The best way to eat s’mores in my opinion.

Aren’t they fun to make Charlee? I wasn’t sure if they’d taste as good coming from the oven, but it was fast and delicious just the same! We have some chocolate left over I may just need to make a few more. Enjoy yours too this weekend!
Loving this one….Aiden is really in to his!!!
These tasted just like a regular ol’ campfire ones… He LOVED it! Actually ate 2
I like the idea of a weekly theme! I think this summer is a little too early for Little Boy to really appreciate that concept, but I’m gathering ideas for summers and holidays to come!

Thanks Elvira for stopping by. Glad to find you today through the SITS challenge. This is the first summer I’m doing a themed week with the kids, partly to keep some consistency at home too. So far it’s been a lot of fun for both the kids and me.
I just had to pin! I had no idea it was so easy to make indoor Smores. It’s definitely something I’m going to have to try with the boys. Stopping by from the June Hobnob.

It’s seriously so easy to make Indoor Smores, and less mess which was great… Although once the kids bite into it I can’t guarantee what mess that brings, lol. My son at 2 he loved them so much. Have fun Silvie if you make them.
Thanks for sharing! I have a soft spot for s’mores and can’t wait to try these!
Glad you like them Danielle, it’s really easy and quick but tasty for both the kids and us adults too

Oh I hope you guys do Kristina, it’s so much fun! We definitely will be out back this weekend enjoying it too! Plus it’s free, you can’t go wrong. Have fun. Post a pic or two, I’d love to see
Indoor smores sound perfect. We don’t dare have any outdoor fires being in California, so we miss out on S’mores too often.
Thank you for stopping by the Thoughtful Spot Weekly Blog Hop this week. We hope to see you drop by our neck of the woods next week!
