What to Do with Halloween Candy

Happy Halloween! I wanted to wish you a very festive day full of ghouls and goblins, tricks and treats, and oh-so much spooktacular fun! But, What to Do with all that Halloween Candy?

Do you plan to take your kids out trick-or-treating this evening? It’s always so much fun to watch the kids trick-or-treat, but is it fun to see all that sugar candy when they get home? I know I love to sort through and help them pick out a few favorites, after that, what should you do with all that candy?

Here’s a few tips on What to Do with your Halloween Candy.

Did you know 90 million pounds of chocolate candy is sold on the week leading up to Halloween? Yep, lots of chocolate lovers out there!

Candy Corn is the top selling candy, with over 20 million pounds sold per year. That’s a whole lot of cavities if you ask me. Or at least a nice sweet treat, at least.

Donate your Candy - Most schools, churches, and even dentists will gladly accept your left-over candy. Some dentists may even pay or provide some kind of gift for donating halloween candy. Anything to keep the cavity bugs away, wonderful dentists out there are more than happy to help. Another great way to donate is to help a local shelter or foster community where kids in need would be so grateful for a special treat.

Baking - Candy corns, yes they are oh-so sweet but, they’re also the perfect candy to use to decorate cupcakes, brownies, cakes, and more! With the holidays already upon us, there are so many festive recipes to try using lots of your sweet treats. M&M’s are also great for baking, milkshakes, or in so many scrumptious recipes.

Crafting - Again the holidays are going to be here before you know it. Why not set your excess candy aside and re-use by crafting some gifts. There are so many creative craft ideas using candy wrappers. I can’t wait to try creating a few this season with you.

Gifting - Looking for gifts for your teachers, co-workers, or even for family and friends? Well, grab a mason jar and fill it with some of your sweet treats, add a gift tag and you have yourself a wonderful gift. All by using something that may have gone un-used otherwise. Who wouldn’t love a little gift jar full of sweets. I know I’d love one!

Gingerbread Houses - Set aside those candies and use them when you create a gingerbread house this winter. All those cool shapes, and unique candy the kids may receive can be used to make some super creative gingerbread house decor. Think how cool your gingerbread house will be? Coolest one on the block after re-using halloween candy, who knew?!

Host a Cookie Party - We love to bake. The kids love to decorate and sample a cookie or two. Host a few friends over for a play-date and use those M&M’s or hard candy for creating awesome toppings for cookies. A little bit of candy for this will go a long way. Plus, it saves money by hosting a cookie decorating party without buying too much. The whole family will have a blast creating some memorable cookies this year using left over candy.
