It’s October, hooray! This is probably one of my favorites months of the year. For so many reasons, we have birthday this month. My mom, my hubby, and yours truly is celebrating a birthday too. Okay, I also love October for all the ghoulish treats, and spooktacular crafts + recipes. Including the cool recipe for pumpkin scented paint and our super cool potato pumpkin painting.
Using a few items you already have at home, you can create pumpkin scented paint, plus let the kids enjoy some hands-on fun, what’s better than that right? If you have extra paint you can create any kind of pumpkin artwork your child imagines. This paint is not edible, but it does smell like pumpkin flavor. It’s a fun one!
Here’s what you’ll need:
Large Potato
Sharp Knife (for parents use only)
Orange Paint
1 Tbsp - Pumpkin Pie Spice
Paintbrush
White Paper
Put your orange paint into a small bowl, along with 1 tablespoon of pumpkin pie spice. Mix both together until fully blended. The paint may have some small brown pieces from the pumpkin pie spice, but nothing that shows once you paint onto paper.
Next, cut your large potato in half. This way you’ll have 2 pumpkin faces to work with. Using your small knife (this part is for parents only), begin carving triangle shaped eyes, nose, and a jig-saw mouth. The potato pieces should chunk right off after carving your shapes.
Now have your child dip their paintbrush into the pumpkin scented paint and begin covering your newly designed pumpkin face. Cover your potato pumpkin face completely, have fun with it.
Next have your child use the potato as a stamp. Press your potato onto your white paper and create a pumpkin collage, artwork, or whatever pumpkin painting your child enjoys.
Let the kids have fun with it, be creative and get messy. Plus, it smells good too! The kids will have a blast creating their masterpiece pumpkin arts.
